It’s Monday morning, and I have spent the last 3 days in bed being super sick, like horrible fucked up flu sick.
I had a client come in for her regular nail appointment and complained she wasn’t feeling great, but of course when I gave her my sick speech, it is just allergies. It’s always just allergies, right? News Flash! We really don’t want you coming in spreading your sickness.
When a client chooses to come in for their nail appointment and feeling under the weather they are risking others health and your livelihood, this is completely unfair and frankly a little selfish. I realize that many of them do not understand what it takes to own and operate a nail salon. It’s a lot more work then slapping on a coat of polish and booking their next appointment. Most clients have a 9-5 job, they come in, do their time and collect a paycheck with benefits that include sick or personal time off. What they don’t understand is that if someone’s ass is not in our client chair, we aren’t collecting funds to cover overhead. Earning paid time off and benefits is just something we fantasize about in the world of beauty.
If you are like me and have a crazy busy schedule and book out weeks in advance, so the thought of having to take a sick day creates stress. It means you are not only losing money but you are also losing time, and as well all know in this industry, time is money. You find yourself playing musical appointments and inconveniencing other clients schedules. Many times, working on our days off to cover the sick days we missed just to keep clients on a schedule and earn a few bucks to pay bills with.
Although many of our clients look at us as super heros, because we make them look and feel like a million bucks, it is forgotten that we are human and getting sick is inevitable. As much as we strive to bring them our best, we need them to understand that coming in even a little sick isn’t worth the chance of a coat of polish with a seal of germs.
