1)Do you have favorite colors you like to work with?
Yes of course! I love blues and greens, they are the colors of the ocean and purple my favorite color. Purple is the color of royalty, at least it was and I can be a royal pain so there ya go!
2)Is there a person or place that inspires you?
The ocean inspires my art, nature…the colors of our beautiful planet. Nature is authentic and I find that beautiful. Good people, real people also inspire my heart which is where my passion and art comes from. So yes, both people and places inspire me and that is how it happens.
3)What is your favorite music when creating nail art?
Totally depends on the mood I am in. Music moves me so anything from Metal when I’m feeling edgy or badass to Pop or Dance if I need a pick me up. I can even get into classical if I am feeling the renaissance vibe.
4)Do you have a favorite nail art mixed medium?
Well I do a LOT of my designs in CND Shellac and Additives but my first true love is liquid and powder aka Acrylic. It’s like picking which child you like the best, the one that came first or the one that still wants to play…
5)What are three words that describe you as an artist?
Passionate, Alive and Inspired
6)What is your greatest accomplishment as a nail artist?
As an artist I’m still pretty proud of my very first attempt at an international mixed media competition that I took grand prize for in 2006. I’d never done one, I set my goal and hit it out of the park. Right up there with it is teaching it. When you see a nail pro get excited because you just showed them how to do something they didn’t think they could do, that is the real deal right there. THAT fills my heart with pure joy.
7)Describe the most interesting nail art you have created by request?
Maybe not interesting but sweet. My client just had her first grandchild, brought an image of the footprint in and I sized, created a tattoo of it and we put it on her nails. Now the most interesting REPAIR I had to do on nail art was quite a story of how her nail ended up in some guys back!
8) What is the best trick of the trade you have learned?
OMG, just one??? I guess it was teaching myself to e-file in the early 90’s. I think careful and proper use of it has allowed me to work 26 years relatively pain free.
9)Do you have a favorite nail shape?
If yes, what is it? For 24.5 of my nail years it would have been the square. I have since gone to the long almond side.
10) Any words of advice for new nail artists?
Yes, LEARN and when you think you know it ALL learn some more. Take nail classes from lots of different teachers, find what speaks to you. Practice, practice some more, take another class, find a mentor and keep what inspires you fresh and alive. Then give back, share what you learn, don’t be afraid of competition. Helping another nail tech be better only elevates you and our industry. Sharing won’t take away from you if you genuinely give, it’s true it comes back 10 fold. I Black heart (cards) nails and most of the people they are attached to. Peace Love Nails!
